APAA Hosts Unity Brunch

APAA, in partnership with One World Recovery Network, organized a successful event known as the Unity Brunch. This event brought together various community partners and stakeholders to discuss overdose reduction, high mortality rates, and the essential support needed for under-resourced communities.

The Unity Brunch, facilitated by Phillip Rutherford of Black Faces Black Voices (www.bfbv.org), served as a platform for open and honest discussions, allowing participants to share their unique insights and experiences related to mental health and substance use. It fostered a learning environment where valuable knowledge was not only gained but also generously shared with others. By creating an inclusive atmosphere, the event encouraged dialogue and collaboration among individuals from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and areas of expertise.

Participants emphasized the importance of raising awareness and education within affected communities, as well as the significant role that faith-based organizations play in developing long-term solutions. They highlighted the need for harm reduction approaches that encompass not only prevention but also access to life-saving interventions, such as medication-assisted treatment. Through these discussions, attendees gained a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding overdose reduction and the vital role each community member can play in addressing this epidemic.
